OVERNIGHT CORON ISLAND IMMERSION
From clear turquoise lakes to the rich history and culture of its people entrenched in a stunning karst landscape, discover more to Coron than meets the eye as we circumnavigate Coron Island.
Highlight of Overnight Coron Island Immersion
“Home,” they have called this island for centuries, the natives known as the Tagbanua regard their land and their waters sacred. After an epic fight for sovereignty, they have since reserved the right to protect its magnificent natural wonders – some of which we will have been privileged to set foot in.
Begin the journey either clockwise or counterclockwise around the island. Rest assured your trip will be uniquely amazing either way with expert local guidance. Start northwest of the island and southbound with swimming as you marvel the beauty and the fascinating thermocline features of Barracuda Lake and the Twin Lagoon by wading between and under cliffs of limestone. Then take a 10-minute hike and let the sublime landscape of Kayangan, from the cove to the lake, take your breath away.
On the eastern face of the island, learn about the rich culture and history of its dwellers that have descended from some of the oldest known ethnicities in the Philippines. Take a peek into a day in their life as we visit the village of the Calamian Tagbanua. We also swing by the charming isle of Dibatoc to enjoy a local picnic lunch and some beach time.
We camp out halfway through the journey and have most of our picnics in the secluded Calis Point located at the southern tip of the island. From here, we paddle through surrounding waters, snorkel in its impressive reef slope and explore the nearby Cathedral Cave.
Just before heading back to the main island, try to spot a pawikan (sea turtle) as we snorkel in the vibrant reefs of the Siete Pecados Marine Sanctuary. End the journey by relaxing your tired muscles in the naturally heated saltwater pools of Maquinit Hot Springs.
